Anxiety in Young People about Climate Change

by Annabelle Styles

As young people, we feel the burden of the future world environment. This pressure cannot be alleviated due to a lack of immediate action.

A study by Hickman et al has shown anxiety in people between 16-25 years old. The researchers questioned 10,000 people and these individuals were from 10 different countries; Australia, Brazil, Finland, France, India, Nigeria, Philippines, Portugal, the UK and the USA.

  • Participants who think that the future is frightening 75% 75%
  • Participants who  think that the people have failed the planet. 83% 83%

The emotions expressed were; sad, anxious, angry, powerless, helpless and guilty.

Similarly to this, according to the students of Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School, we believe that we should be leading this change in order to reduce the anxiety it is bringing for our age group.
